Just started reading and already CAN'T PUT IT DOWN!

Just started reading and already CAN'T PUT IT DOWN! I love how Ms. Ackerman captures small details, that really do help the reader visualize what is being read (authors are amazing)! Looking forward (not really, hate when great books have to end) to finishing and then watching the movie! Kudos to Diane Ackerman on a well written book!
Will post an updated review once I am done, but unless Amazon adds a 6th star to the rating, I can assure you, you won't want to put it down either!
HIGHLY, DEFINITELY RECOMMENDED!

This is such a good book I could not put it down. Such a clever idea to tell the story of the zoo and the Warsaw experience under Nazi rule. I look forward to the movie as I want to see how th e y made a movie from this book. Jack Kushner

A BOOK FOR ALL TIME

This book is one of the best that I have read in a long time. Because it is solidly based on a true story, the author Diane Ackerman having read numerous journals by the heroine and other historical references, I simply could not quit reading. I learned SO much about what happened to Warsaw AND Poland AND the zookeeper Jan Zabinski AND his wife Antonina AND their animals as a result of the Nazi invasion, I almost felt as if I were living the horrifying reality. Despite the fact that Jan and Antonina were not Jewish themselves, their assistance to their Jewish friends can only be seen as both remarkable and INCREDIBLY heroic. I CANNOT REMEMBER ANOTHER BOOK WHICH AFFECTED ME SO DEEPLY; it is simply superlative. I can only hope that the script for the upcoming movie was supervised by Diane Ackerman herself.
