This book is the best on the market. Chapters are well written and organized. I found the chapter objectives, key terms, activities, and exercises very helpful. I am not a communication major, but purchased and read the book as I deal with students, teachers, and parents daily as an Occupational Therapist. Well worth the money and a wonderful assets to my collection of resources.

The Best Psychological Abuse Book.

This is by far one of the best books that I have read on the topic of psychological abuse. This book happened to land in my hands at a crucial time. I am in a psychologically abusive marriage where I am now going through a divorce. I needed something that could help me through this journey most of all I needed someone to tell me what I had walked through was not my fault or that I was crazy. I also needed a bigger understanding about what I was dealing with. This book has become a healing balm on this journey of mine to healing and wholeness. The chapter titled "The Basics of Psychological Abuse introduces what this type of abuse is really about and who are the abusers. The authors lets us know that is is a "stereotype that only men are narcissists, sociopath or psychopath." In this chapter of the book where the author talks about individual abusers where "The Toxic love interest or spouse "was very impactful for me. The author states "The person who was intended to be the safe harbor in life is actually silently drowning them. This is done right in plain sight." This was very meaningful to me because I was drowning in the waters of psychological abused inflicted by my husband yet the assumption by others was that I had a good husband. This book has validated the pain and lack of understanding that I have faced. This book contains so many healing and enlightening points too many for me to even list here.The author also took me on a journey through the six stages of recovery from hidden abuse which are as follows: despair, education, awakening, boundaries, restoration and maintenance. I admonish every person who is dealing with this type of abuse to get this book and gift it as well. I am a case manger and qualified mental health specialist and I would admonish professional to read this as well. All battered women shelters should have copies of this book.During my stay in one after I left my husband I saw that many women there were baffled by the way abusers had treated and made them feel . Exceptional. Insightful and Empathetic Resource for those who have gone through abuse.

I've read a LOT of books on recovery, healing and narcissism and this has been one of the most profound and significant in my journey so far. After a lifetime of living with abuse (first in my family of origin, then in my marriage) I had to suppress so much of what my spirit and soul knew was true in order to survive in thse relationships. Since becoming free from abuse it has been a difficult and confusing process to unpack and untangle the web of lies, smear campaigns, and deception, and I am so grateful to Shannon Thomas for writing this book.

the way Shannon writes and understands abuse is the way I wish my friends had been able to support me, and I appreciate her therapeutic and personal experience in dealing with toxic personalities.

The book is validating, affirming, and packed with a wealth of wisdom that has obviously been hard earned. It's clear that Shannon's knowledge is not theoretical, but from experience.

Great book! Helpful, encouraging, and easy to read!

I've read this book twice. Yes, it's that good. It clearly communicates what people go through who have experienced psychological abuse by a narcissist or sociopath. The author says, "People who experience psychological abuse often cannot clearly describe what has been done to them." However, this book gives you the vocabulary and knowledge you need to understand and explain the insidious and devious nature of the abuse.

I learned so much from the book! I have never underlined, highlighted, and made as many notes in a book before - even throughout college! The author's words will resonate wth survivors. In plain English, she lays out the who, what, where, when, how, and the important why - the questions survivors wrestle with. She goes on to lay out a road to recovery.

Those in the midst of the abuse struggle to see that there IS light at the end of the tunnel. Don't get stuck in despair. You can make it out and move on with your life. It takes work, effort, and especially knowledge. "Healing from Hidden Abuse" will help you no matter where you are in your stage of recovery, if you are years away from the abuse or even if at the moment it seems as if you may never escape. Reading Shannon Thomas' book will give you the feeling that she cares. She wrote this book to help you, and the thousands like you. You are not alone. And you're not crazy.

A real value to IT executives

What is the business value of IT? This is a perennial question that dominates executive discussions. Many have sought to answer this question with fancy algorithms, consulting practices, benchmark data and other tools. However, the question is basic to IT so it should have a basic answer - right? Absolutley and fortunately Hunter and Westerman provide much of the answer in this book.

The Real Business of IT is a clear and focused look at the issue of IT value and the approaches to capture, communicate and increase that value. This book is unique in several respects. It is a book written for CIOs largely based on the experience of CIOs.

The book features extended practices from leading companies like McKesson, Intel, Freescale, Deltak and many others. Building on those sources, Hunter and Westerman explain a simple virtuous cycle for driving IT value. They illustrate this cycle with about a dozen concepts that CIOs can use tomorrow to change the way they talk about value.

Hunter and Westerman make good use of these resources creating a book that is filled accessible information. One of the ways they do this is through using analogies from outside of IT. This not only makes the ideas easy to understand but also it gives the CIOs stories that they can use to inform and educate their business peers about IT.

This book helps CIOs avoid common value traps that limit the view of IT's value in the enterprise. It then goes on to build the tools and techniques to demonstrate the value for money in IT, how IT helps run, grow and transform the enterprise, manage IT's unit costs, and other key concepts.

The book is tuned and intended for CIOs and IT executives, rather than business executives. This is not to say business executives should not read this book, its just that it is not written for them. By focusing on CIOs, the authors avoid much of the complexity found in other books. This should be taken as a strength since that focus enables the authors to clearly provide practices and tools that CIOs can use.

The business value of IT sits in the conversations within your enterprise not in compliance with some industry standard. Therefore, I would suggest that CIOs use this book with their teams to build that conversation, in their terms and their situation.

This book is highly recommended for CIOs and IT executives all of whom will face the need to answer questions about the value of IT. In this book, CIOs will learn directly from the authors as well as the insights of leading CIOs and their examples. This is a powerful combination that makes the investment in The Real Business of IT a good value.

Business executives often express value in terms of financial measures and terms. While the book advises CIOs to focus on business performance, it could have done with some expanded financial content.

The latter chapters that discuss BPR and organizations change cover them in a traditional way. This reinforces the importance of creating value beyond more than just IT.

Useful and Practical Advice but very Verbose

Approach suggested by Authors is basic commonsense, but definitely relevant, useful and practical, which many people miss out. However this could have been articulated in just a few dozen pages, perhaps as a main article in a magazine rather than a 200 page long book. Result is verbose text, with plenty of repetition and many needless references to what contemporary CIOs, CxOs told the authors or in magazine interviews. What would have helped is giving a set of structured/concrete Checklists/Benchmarks either directly or in the case studies to supplement the suggested value creation 'framework'.

Best IT book I ever read

How do we fix IT's problems? Well, Hunter and Westerman gave us the answer: pick up more work! Yes, and it actually does make sense. Be responsible for MORE things and your success rate will increase.

This book is about how to really deliver value from IT. It is based on changing IT's mindset. You've probably read much on this topic before, but this book sums it all up and more. And it does have suggestions that can be readily applied.

Every manager in IT should read this book!

Minerals are required to make our bodies electric. But the minerals that perform this function have to be in the ionized form and small enough to enter cells. Mineral ions are much more available in a liquid base. The fluid disperses mineral compounds into its two ionic forms. However, if something is ionic in charge, it doesn’t mean the mineral is broken down into a small enough size to navigate the mineral ion channels. The correct size is picometers – one trillionth of a meter.

In the past few years physicists have determined that the mineral ion channels that are the gateways through which minerals enter cells are only 400-500 picometers in diameter. If minerals don’t properly get inside cells, because they are too large, then non-mineralized water floods into the cells and the large-sized minerals stay outside. All forms of edema, including brain edema, are caused by fluid and electrolyte imbalance at the cellular level.

Pico-Ionic minerals are small enough to directly enter into cells bringing the minerals where they are most needed. Inside the cell, minerals are responsible for the 70-90 millivolts of energy that creates intracellular communication. A body can only be as healthy as its cells.

Another important aspect about Pico-Ionic minerals is that people who suffer from IBS-diarrhea, Crohn’s and colitis can use Pico-Ionic minerals in spite of malabsorption.

When I was first introduced to picometer minerals, I met Dr. Terry Wood, a veterinarian, who was also researching highly absorbable forms of minerals. Dr. Wood found that oral picometer minerals were as effective as IV minerals for seriously ill animals. Dr. Wood realized these minerals are almost completely absorbed in the face of a maldigestion and/or malabsorption because they completely bypass the gut and they do not have to be attached to carrier protein molecules that must be digested before the mineral is absorbed.

Dr. Wood told me that another huge point in favor of picometer minerals is that their available surface area is extremely large. If you take a certain amount of a mineral and calculate the surface area, by the time it is broken down into picometer size, the surface area is increased by millions and millions of units. This means there is more mineral surface area available to do its job. This is why just a few parts per million (ppm) of a molecular mineral can do a better job than hundreds or thousands of milligrams of the same mineral in a non-picometer form.

Great book!

Love, love, love this book! Dr. Dean tells you so much and is so clear and easy to understand. I learned so much and because of it I have been able to stop my nighttime leg cramps, stop my GERD, reduce my asthma meds to once a week instead of twice a day and even reduced my heart meds and have better blood pressure than when I was on meds for that too! I wish Dr. Dean was in my area as I would love to have her as my GP! Thanks Dr. Dean. I learned more from your book than I did from all the doctors through all the years I've been treating these things. What a shame that doctors don't give us the information that you have given in your book.

what really lost this one a star is, the book is free on her web site. (As is part 1 on magnesium).

I love Carolyn Dean's books on magnesium and however u get her information I recommend getting it, One thing Mrs dean never talks about is her lab that makes Re-mag or Re-light... "Good State health solutions" just may be unknown laboratory/manufacturer of those products. At least to me it looks like the Ionic magnesium + minerals they sell are equal or very similar products (and are available on Amazon prime).

Love it!

I love this picture dictionary! The pictures are clear, no trying to figure out what, exactly, the object you're looking at is really called. I suggest my lower level ELLs buy one. I love that this comes in so many different languages. There are also several supplemental books with activities for the different chapters. If you're looking for a very usable picture dictionary - get one of these!
