Very convenient to have the electronic copy of this book. Great documentation of stories commonly told when i was a kid. They somehow elevate my understanding and interest about ancestors of these beautiful atolls, how they live back then, and the significance of each and every myth and their connections - from the story of Nareau, the tree of Samoa, Te Uekera, half people half spirits (anti ma aomata). Recommendable to perhaps scholars from Kiribati, like me - a bunch of things you'll learn in this book - the mwaneaba, canoe, weather and local navigation, the culture from birth to death, the connection that might be traceable between each and every myth, interesting maps and pictures originally drawn when technology is nonexistence, among others. The author Arthur Grimble (who is a Resident Commissioner for many years in Kiribati, and a respected anthropologist) and the later contribution of his daughter (Rosemary Grimble) has made this book meaningful, educational, and one that earns my respect and gratitude, for the stories that were told verbally when I was a kid, are not mere stories..they do gave hints and patterns, and i think therefore that understanding the current cannot be made isolated with understanding these great historical patterns and definitions.
