Great with some caveats

The best book about ancient economies I ever read. Still, our understanding of ancient Greek-Roman society is fairly incomplete but this account is a very convincing and well argued interpretation of the empirical evidence we have today. Now it's clear that there was a substantial increase in per capita income In the classical world followed by a collapse/recession in the 1st millennium AD.
I would have some caveats: the author makes some basic mistakes in economics and accounting. For example, he confuses per capita and total GDP growth when using indicators of per capita consumption such as average house sizes found by archaeologists to estimate a growth rate of .4% and compares it to 1-2% growth rates in modern countries, however, he confuses this per capita income growth rate with aggregate growth. Also, a more careful study would involve regressions on modern data involving the relationship between per capita consumption of these variables visible in the archaeological record and per capita incomes in our world today.
Anyway another mistake is the authors failure to understand Walras' law and hence to argue about the problems of increasing demand for commodities through Incone distribution and economic development.
Finally, he makes many assumptions that are not explicitly supported by empirical evidence such as that agriculture was the bulk of the economic activity in the Classical/Hellenistic world, well, in other advanced pre-modern economies such as 18th century Netherlands and England agriculture corresponded to about 30-35% of GDP, large but not the majority of the economic output. Grain wages in Classical Greece appear to be similar level which implies in similar proportions of expenditures on basic agricultural products.
Despite these caveats this is a great book, perhaps the best existing in the current literature of Classical economies (much better than Temin's book on the Roman Empire by the way).
