I'd give NO stars if I could.

This is by far one of the worst, if not the very worst, textbook I have ever had the misfortune to spend money on.
On one page I counted 5 typos, 5 sentence fragments, and three sentences that made no sense, as in were circular in logic or just didn't make any grammatical sense.
The whole book is like that.

In addition, they fail to define significant terms and rely excessively on acronyms, which are also either undefined, or defined *once* in the body of a paragraph, two chapters back.

I have noticed that there are instances where the information is just plain wrong, which is unsurprising. If they can't even proofread, I don't expect accuracy.

But the one thing that infuriated me the most was the diarrhea of peripheral information crammed in in place of better explication of actual hematological processes. It is too vague to be useful in a lab setting, and meaningless otherwise. Why include it?! The text is FULL of crap factoids like that. And not enough explanation of actual hematology.

If you want excellent alternatives, the Harmening or Rodak books are much better!

Just for full disclosure, I am a veterinarian, so I have read dozens of clinical texts to compare this with.

The book is brand new and it's an affordable price !! I purchase this book for my Laboratory Med Uni course, the book is very helpful in my learning for Hematology. The text book also contains an access code to also access the textbook online, so you don't have to carry the textbook to uni all the time. Also online has additional quizzes and tests, very helpful when tests and exam is coming up.

A wonderful book of tremendously beautiful portraits of elephants and other wild animals. Looking through the pages you cannot help but feel for the future of these magnificent creatures. All credit to Nick for the fantastic work he is doing in Africa, he should be supported.
Unfortunately the same can't be said for Amazon.com who didn't send the 2014 edition as described, and instead sent an earlier edition poorly packaged that arrived with dents and scores in the front cover.

A piece of art work, so amazing, so beautiful those pictures are. It's not only a Must-buy books about wildlife animals' life but also a great book for B&W photography. The stories behind these creatures are sad and horrible, but it also remind and push us to face the problems of poaching. Save these animals, not just for them and for us, but also for our future and children.

Nick Brandt has captured the most heart wrenching documentation of man's cruelty-arrogance and greed. To think that we as humans have ravaged what has been created- created without any human interaction. These photos capture what is wild- what is beautiful- and what we as the " superior race" have and continue to ravage. What right do we have to eradicate these majestic animals? I ask myself that everyday. This is the point where we as a race have evolved. I am ashamed of our evolution.
This book represents a deep love and appreciation for these magnificent animals and I hope will cause some soul searching to those who are privileged to view it. This endeavor by Nick Brandt will serve as an everlasting testament of respect and gratitude for this cause- for all of us to come to the realization that we have no right to kill -what was meant to share this planet with us.

I needed a book like this one. Straight to the point you'll learn the basic stuff to change your mind from a scarcity to an abundance mindset. You'll learn how to identify an abundance mentality or how to gain & maintain the abundance mentality, that is he most important one!. The tips and steps included can be applied and are helpful for you to get there. Really recommended!

This book was a very quick read about changing your mindset to attract positivity in your life. The concepts aren't revolutionary, but it's nice to have them laid out in one place.

It's a good book for those who don't know anything at all about the subject, but for me there wasn't anything new. I liked the beginning, because I could see some of my problems there. However, when it comes to explanation of changing your mindset (or as Steve Pavlina calls it, heartset, with which I agree), I found his videos and blog a lot more specific. Also, the mantras in the end make it sound like their purpose is to tell the university what you need and just get it - that's pretty vague. Telling yourself over and over again that 'you are abundance' won't get you in the mindset of abundance. It's bigger than that.
I'd like to thank the author for making the book free - it's good to see different people's opinions.

Not my favorite cookbook and not very Irish

Not my favorite cookbook and not very Irish. This is first very Anglo Irish heavily on Anglo. Organization is bizarre. Entrees breads deserts are mixed together depending on what type of ingredient from the orchard from the sea etc. Makes it hard to use in meal planning. Mostly Irish Heritage name I take exception to.

This is a wonderful addition to my kitchen. Our family being from Ireland, the book offered several dishes that I have not had in 25 years. So far have made 10 classic dishes, all were loved by all. Will make a great book for special occasions with the family and close friends.

Very nicely organized book of Irish recipes and Ingredients

`the Irish Heritage Cookbook' by Irish-American high school teacher and culinary writer, Margaret M. Johnson is a near-perfect reflection of how the Irish cuisine has grown up around the products of Irish farming, animal husbandry, and fishing. The chapter organization facilitates appreciating this situation with the following chapters:

From the Land with recipes for fruits and vegetables, especially root vegetables such as potatoes, carrots, turnips, parsnips and onions and tree fruit such as apples. The potato recipes are no surprise, the recipes combining potatoes with other root vegetables and with apples is new. I am especially happy to see recipes for champ and colcannon side by side, as I constantly forget what it is which distinguishes one version of these mashed potato recipes from the other.

From the Farm with recipes for meat dishes, especially beef, pork, and chicken. Like the previous chapter, one is taken, here, with the rich combination of meats with apples, beer, and whiskey. Unlike some recipes, I am happy to see that the author gives us the recipe for making the corned beef for our corned beef and cabbage dish.

From the Dairy features milk and egg recipes and recipes from milk products such as cheese and cream. While I have known that Ireland is a rich milk producing country, I was never aware that it had a very rich cheese making industry. In fact, almost all the cheese varieties used in these recipes are type made famous elsewhere such as cheddar from England, Parmesan from Italy, and Swiss style cheeses. The Irish varieties in fact mostly seem to be variations on the neighboring cheddar and the product of the Alps, `Swiss' cheeses.

From the Hillside is all about Lamb dishes. Oddly, in spite of the fact that I am weary of seeing stock recipes in virtually every cookbook I open, I do miss a good recipe for lamb stock in this book, as recipes for lamb stock are not nearly as common as for chicken, veal, beef, and fish. There is a very simple recipe for `lamb broth', but none for `homemade lamb stock', an ingredient in many of these recipes. I miss it because Deborah Madison has converted me to the notion that stocks should ideally be made to fit the dishes in which they are to be used. I also miss the fact that Ms. Johnson is not more specific in specifying the source of her stewing lamb pieces.

From the Waters is all about fish dishes, especially salmon, trout, sole, oysters, and mussels. As wine is used in the fish poaching recipes, I assume these are more likely from restaurants than from home cooks, as I suspect wine was a real luxury item in Ireland of olden days.

From the Wild covers recipes from game such as turkey, goose, game hens, duck, quail, pheasant, venison, rabbit, and guinea fowl. Here again I'm surprised and impressed by the wide use of apples and apple cider in the recipes. It even includes a recipe for a wild duck pate. I'm a bit surprised that there is not more charcuterie recipes for things such as sausage. I guess Ireland was cold enough in the fall and winter that one could store meats in the root cellar in the cold without fancy preservation techniques.

From the Hearth is all about baking, with the famous Irish Soda Bread occupying the first two recipes. We find that even many recipes without `soda' in the title turn out to be leavened by baking soda or baking powder or both. Next to soda bread, the most famous Irish type of bread must be scones, of which there are plenty of recipes here. And, next to wheat, the most popular grain ingredient is, of course, oats prepared in one way or another.

From the Orchards and the Fields contains fruit dishes and desserts. Here again, the stars are apples, potatoes, and oats, with a welcome role for the great character actors, rhubarb and strawberries.

While this is the first full sized Irish cookbook I have reviewed, I feel safe in heartily recommending it to anyone who wants a great source of relatively simple Irish and Irish-inspired recipes in an inexpensive volume. I believe I will find more elaborate, or at least more culinarily fussy books on the subject, but this one is a keeper!

Another failure to deliver

Many authors of erotica deals with the theme of a girls school with mainly lesbian sex and "classical" spanking dicipline. This should at least set higher standards for any new attempt to use this setting. However, also in this novel, we see a lot of spanking, followed sometimes by briefly descibed sex- secenes (a few good exceptions, though), but no deeper feeling of attraction and compassion between the dominant and submissive participants. These feelings ARE described, but one feels that they are used more or less as an excuse to go on with the punishment.
the setting and the theme is very exciting, but this one did not deliver!

It Takes Discipline to Finish it

A disjoint work of mainly lesbian domination. Although relatively well written in terms of grammar and use of the language, there just isn't a coherent thread through the work. Much less interesting to read than the two previous works by the same writer. It gets three stars only because the writing and language usage are above average. The story development is lacking, one would have wished for more involvement by the character Barat, but this was not to be. The ending was essentially telegraphed at the beginning, thus "relieving" the reader of suspense (and a lot of interest as well).

Joyous BDSM fantasia

While I don't have my old copy in front of me to quote from chapter and verse, I can certainly say that "Discipline of the Private House" is one of the best volumes of erotica I have ever read. Esme Ombreux writes fluently and with a definite sense of fun about the wild shenanigans of a covert society of BDSM afficianadoes who routinely draw new, naive budding sensualists into their world of polyvalent thrills. Unlike some Nexus titles, there's nothing really "mean spirited" about all these goings on, but there is plenty of explicit and imaginative sexuality. Of course it's no surprise that spirited Jem prevails over her challenges in sex slavery by the end, but what's so delightful is to follow her journey and that of her new friend, a trembling Middle Eastern ingenue who discovers several thrilling new penchants. Loads of spanking, bondage, costumes, toys, piercings, and role-play abound, along with saucy dominatrixes and sobbing, delighted subs. I'm sorry the other readers didn't enjoy this so much, but I've found the three volumes of the Private House series that I've read all delightful, and none more so than this. Like the best Black Lace titles, it's a spirited romp with a kinky spin on female power. I think this is one of the best volumes of its kind.

I have to disagree with the last reviewer. The point of this book is not to offer tips and tools on how to deal with the disorder, either as sufferer or victim. It is just what the title states: how to spot someone with BPD. Nowhere in the book does he stigmatize or criticize those with the disorder. He simple lists, based on his research and experience, how a typical BPD sufferer acts. He's listing symptoms, not cures.

My ex-significant other is an undiagnosed BP and I can state from personal experience that the relationship was as close to emotional hell as I can imagine. Yes, it is a debilitating disorder, for both those with it AND those forced to live with it. After years of constantly trying to navigate the minefield of her rages I knew something was wrong, but had no idea what. A book like this would have been an enormous help at the time. Frankly, I find it somewhat irritating that some insist that because the sufferer can't help doing what they do, those involved with the BP are somehow being unfair or stigmatizing or possess a lack empathy if we seek a way out. There is a reason BPD is one of the hardest disorders to treat, namely that by the very nature of the disorder those with it refuse to believe that THEY have a problem.

As a counter to Mr. Lee's comments, I will state that this book is simply a tool to determine if you're facing the disorder, most likely from the perspective of someone involved with a BP. It is tragic that so many BPD victims commit suicide, yes. And the emotional pain they feel daily is horrible, yes. But a definition of the disorder is not an idictment, it is just that: a definition. If you think you're involved with someone with BPD, read this book. If it seems that you can NEVER do right by your partner; that everything seems to be your fault; that (s)he goes from happy one minute to enraged the next; if events are manipulated, mis-represented, or simply invented to make them the victim and you the bad-guy, read this book. If the first thing you do when you wake up, or arrive home, is to think "I wonder what the mood today is going to be," read this book. It will not tell you what to DO about it, but it may very well point you in a direction.

I would venture a guess that Mr. Lee believes that because the BP cannot help it, those victimized by a BP are not allowed to state that they dislike it. At any rate, defining the disorder does not exacerbate it, not does it shame the sufferers if those who care for them seek information about it. Mr. Navarro's book is simply a brief, almost clinical, definition of what the disorder is; nothing more.

a book for the layman - to avoid or get out of hell

This is a book for laymen- not professionals, though it does use language from the DSM. It is not for a professional to diagnose a patient. It is for the victims or potential victims to make sense out of the hell in which they are ensnared. It wouldn't surprise me if a lot of the negative reviews on this book are from people who have BPD and hate everything Mr Navarro says because they hate being exposed.

Borderline is a tricky thing to diagnose because out of the 9 symptoms in the DSM-IV and V, they need to have 5...so from one BPD to another the symptoms may vary considerably. Plus, the point is not so much the label of borderline that matters, it is the behaviors. The author uses the 9 symptoms from the DSM-IV and expands on them using more layman language that is accessible to non-mental health professionals. The DSM-V has an evolved set of diagnostic indicators, but it is not radically different. Many mental health workers do not have direct experience with a BPD and can be fooled by them because they are very convincing liars and in a clinic setting, they have no problem acting or pretending to be healthy in order to avoid being diagnosed.

It is hard to describe the lying because it is lying that is unlike the way normal people lie. The BPD has the unique ability to believe their own lies and yet they seem to be able (contradictorily) to control their re-writing of reality to avoid being caught or to minimize the risk of the lie being exposed. It is as if they have a strange partial awareness of lying, but one that they can turn on or off. It would not surprise me if a BPD was given a lie detector test that they would pass, even though you could prove that they were lying.

I was married to a BPD and she lied extensively to one therapist, but was still diagnosed as having BPD. However, during the period of preparation for a divorce hearing that therapist was threatened with a lawsuit until she recanted her diagnosis. Other therapists were fooled, but they were not the one living with the BPD day and night and they were not the BPD's victim- which is a person caught in a very extreme case of emotional dependency and extreme levels of frustrating, endless, unsolvable conflict. The thing is, if you marry one of these people, not only are the excruciatingly difficult to live with and artful practitioners of emotional abuse,... they are very, very difficult to get away from. In my case, she launched a series bunch of threats to smear me that were intended to blackmail me into staying with her, it was legal tactics designed to run up the cost of the divorce as high as possible, and when the threats didn't stop me, she tried to follow through with her threats in order to destroy me. She literally attempted to frame me for rape, child molestation, grand larceny, and trafficking child pornography. I was actually scared that she might somehow succeed with these attempts to frame me, and I repeated searched my hotel room to see if she had hired someone to break in and plant evidence among my things (i had a lot of boxes in the room from when i had escaped the house). This is not to cast all borderlines as the same. They are not the same. Some are more severe than others.

One of their tactics in evading responsibility for their abuse is to construct a false analogy between BPD and other types of illness, like Alzheimer's. BPD is not an ailment like Alzheimer's disease, because unlike Alzheimer's victims, BPD's are active manipulative abusers of those close to them. They have a deeply-buried very intense self-hatred that makes them try to force others to meet their endless emotional needs. They want to play on the empathy they can see in others, but they themselves have NO such empathy for their victims. If you are the target or victim of a BPD, they can very charming, flattering, and sweet until you don't deliver the emotional goods... and trust me, nothing you give is enough, ever.The demands become crazier and crazier and the punishments worse and worse. That is nothing like Alzheimer's. The rest of the world should not have to endure their abuse if they can't stop. In my humble opinion they should not marry or have children because they are simply incapable of handling the normal "stress" of an intimate relationship. There have been some successful treatment methods; DBT has had some success, but that treatment takes years and has a low success rate. The more severe BPD will actively fight diagnosis and treatment with all their might, and if they are armed with a knowledge of psychology then they are just that much better equipped to avoid diagnosis by knowing what to say.

One of the problems with BPDs and psychologists is that the mental health professionals don't live with the BPD and are not close in the same way that a BPD's target is intimate. The therapist just won't see what the BPD does. They might get a small glimpse of the BPD's tendencies in a therapy session, but that is nothing. If the BPD is coming to them alone, there is no way to tell what is truth and what is a lie. BPDs lie cleverly at times and they lie stupidly at other times about things that can easily be verified and debunked, like their mom going to prison, but the point is, their entire life is constructed around lies. Really, the only way a therapist could get a full view of how evil and nasty a BPD can be would be to put the BPD and their loved ones into something extensively monitored, like John Gottman's "Love Shack," but in a way that BPD would not be aware of the monitoring. Then the mental health professional would see it, although even then, they might not grasp the fullness of the BPD's abuse because a BPD tailors their abuse very closely to their victim. They push buttons on their victims that affect only that victim in that specific way; so a therapist might see it, but not feel the abuse's intensity as much as the victim would feel it. They have a highly-developed "manipulative intelligence" that is foreign to the rest of the us, and they seem to be devoid of any restraining conscience. Unless the therapist is very experienced with treating BPD, they will be easy prey to the BPD's manipulative agenda. My ex went to therapists, but her prime purpose was not to get healthy and admit her problem, no her agenda was to prove to me that she didn't have BPD and that I was to blame instead.

This book is incredibly offensive. If someone were to write a book called "How to Spot a Mentally Retarded Person" or "How to Spot a Jew" it would NOT be allowed to be on Amazon and I am surprised that this is. BPD, like mental retardation and race, is NOT something a person chooses to be and therefore should NOT be discriminated for. Joe Navarro is not a doctor but something more along the lines of a Nazi investigator who tries to castigate people who have a mental illness. It would be easy to imagine Navarro training SS officers on how to spot a Jewish person in a crowd and how to question them. This is despicable.
