No one grumbles like Bob Bly

Bob Bly has been called America's copywriter and he has written dozens of books on that subject. This is NOT one of them. This is even better. It's a collection of wisdom filled essays about living and life in general. Bly candidly shares a part of himself not usually found in his other publications. Calling himself a "cranky curmudgeon" he lays out a useful philosophy for low stress, high quality living. If you are already a Bly fan your collection is not complete without this book. If you have never heard of Bly, this book would be a great way to get to know him.

Entertaining and potentially useful book marred by production errors and slovenliness

The book is a collection of various bits of advice on salesmanship, marketing, and personal and business wisdom. It is self-published and marred by sloppy design and production errors. The typesetting is poor, done in a word processing program rather than a program designed for books. The inside margins are so small the book is hard to hold open to read. And the resources cited, typically web URLs, are scattered throughout the book rather than provided conveniently in an appendix or resources section or endnotes.

About the Author

Hamid D. Taghirad is currently a professor with the Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Department of Systems and Control, and the founder of the Advanced Robotics and Automated System (ARAS) at K.N. Toosi University of Technology, Tehran, Iran. He has been involved in numerous robotics industrial projects on the design and implementation of industrial robots, robotic cells, and currently on an industrial cable-driven parallel manipulator. He has also participated in joint international collaborations in the field of robotics. Dr. Taghirad was the founder and a member of the board of the Iranian Society of Mechatronics (ISM) and is currently a member of the board of the Iranian Robotics Society (IRS), editor in chief of Mechatronics Magazine, and a member of the editorial board of the International Journal of Robotics: Theory and Application. He also served as an organizing committee member of many international conferences, including the International Conference on Robotics and Mechatronics (ICRoM). His publications include five books and more than 190 papers in peer-reviewed international journals and conference proceedings.

Serves as the basis for who is starting the study of parallel robots, but also meets who already work with this type of robot and want to have a reference book.

Action packed sci-fi adventure

The book starts out slowly in order to give a lot of information about the characters and set things up, but once it gets going, hold on tight! It's an action passed sci-fi adventure. It's also the first book in an "Infinite World", so I expect many more books to come. Is the next one out yet?

Enjoyable story.

I really enjoyed reading Camallay. I had the opportunity to read it before it was released. The story keeps your attention as you follow Marik's Marauders on Camallay. I appreciate the character depth and development in the story. One of my favorite parts of reading, is when you can easily imagine you are actually there in the story. I felt like I was a part of the adventure.

I hope there will be future stories of Marik's Marauders in the near future. I would definitely purchase the next book. In the meantime, I think I'll go check out a few other of this author's books.

In Camallay Joel Babbit has created a unique and exciting sci-fi universe. The number of interesting races and technologies in the book show Joel Babbit to have a truly creative mind. The book begins with a tension that keeps building as characters are introduced and the plot unfolds. And once the action starts, Mr. Babbit keeps it coming. Weaved into the book is the back ground for a bigger story that leaves you wanting to know what is next. I highly recommend this book and look forward to the continuation of the story.

Mineralogy: A First Course

This most excellent work is intended for the amateur who has advanced beyond the beginner stage but who cannot, due to time, money, or other logistics, take a college mineralogy course. This text is practically a college course in its coverage, although is lucid and easier to understand, assuming no special background in physics or chemistry, but written for the layman who wants to learn. This book in many cases will be easier, more convenient, enjoyable, and less expensive than a college course. Originally published in 1964, it was published in 1966 as Mineralogy: A First Course.
Part I is on the basics of mineralogy: Collecting and history of mineralogy, Atoms in minerals, Classification of Minerals, Crystal Growth, Geometry of Crystals (this section on crystallography, long a subject found difficult by amateurs, explains concepts in simple language and may be best treatment of this for the amateur), Physical Properties, Specific Gravity (including a homemade meter), Optical Properties (and some homemade devices to utilize these), Formation and Association of Minerals, and Identification Procedures.
Part II is Descriptive Mineralogy, covering over 250 species, with crystal drawings, a few good b&w photos, their physical features, means of identification, occurrences. An advantage of this text over many others are the many goniometric crystal angles included which help to identify minerals.
Appendices include lists based upon various properties, bibliography, and index.
Although a useful reference, this book is also good to Read rather just use as a reference. For the learning amateur, this rates a 9 or 10. -DMM

Still excellent!

This book was my first text on mineralogy when I began as a hobbyist. Thirty years later and an advanced degree in the subject, I still refer to it occasionally for its lucid explanations and wealth of illustrations. The layout is uncluttered and comfortable, so that even the most casual reader is not put off. Still an excellent reference that deserves a reprinting.

About the Author
Allison Gemmel Laframboise discovered yoga in college when she was both curious about the practice and looking for a way to ground herself through challenging life events. Seven years later, in 2003, she trained with Yoganand to become a yoga teacher at Kripalu Center for Yoga & Health. She has since studied with Yoganand and other renowned teachers in numerous depth trainings, and holds a professional-level teaching certification. Allison graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Boston University and has experience in psychology and public health research. Today her work is a combination of her life’s true callings—teaching yoga and African-style hand drumming; running her yoga-inspired jewelry line, Prasada; helping to manage the yoga team at Kripalu; and her greatest passion of all, mothering her sons, Kai and Tayo. Allison is calmed, energized, and renewed by living on a lake in the Berkshires of western Massachusetts, where she loves to spend time enjoying life with her family. Once her boys are a bit older, she plans to get back to hobbies like playing piano and guitar, snowboarding, and waterskiing. Born into a strict fundamentalist Christian family, Yoganand left this religious tradition behind at age 16. Yoga—in particular the yoga of Swami Kripalu—offered him another way to channel the dedication to spirituality with which he was raised. He studied with Kripalu Yoga masters in India and the United States, and taught at Kripalu for more than 15 years before founding the Pranakriya™ School of Yoga Healing Arts. At the time of this printing, Yoganand is Dean of the Kripalu School of Yoga, leads Pranakriya Yoga teacher trainings and other programs around the country, and is a member of the International Association of Yoga Therapists. He is a masterful storyteller—through many years of intensive study and practice, he has gained a profound ability to distill and interpret esoteric yoga texts and techniques, making complex philosophical concepts accessible and engaging. I love this book

I love this book. It is written for the modern practitioner and the instructions for the breath practices are clear, concise and appropriate for all levels. There are even daily Pranayama practice plans for both the beginner and the intermediate student. What I am most grateful for, however, is the philosophy and the "discussion about pranayama as an element of the tantric hatha yoga path....... We examine the past to understand the present". As a Kripalu Yoga teacher I am indebted to Yoganand for sharing the wisdom of Swami Kripalu’s teachings and sharing his own personal journey. I am indebted to Allison for the talent and dedication it took to write this book. And now to the practice.........

Improved my knowledge and practice in such a beautifully clear and succinct way

Really terrifically well-written and resourced book that enhances my own pranayam practices. The two authors develop the topic in a completely engaging way from a place of deep knowledge. I have recommended this book to ALL of my fellow yoga instructors and to other yoga practitioners. I hope these two authors work together again. I will refer back to this book again and again. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!

Tantric Path Unfolds with Gusto

This book brings Yoganand's fiery and effective teaching to life on the page, transforming esoteric Tantric ideas into a fascinating journey through one's own inner experience. Despite the ancient roots of the material, it is expertly conveyed in clear text and helpful graphics, with main points bolded. (I always read with highlighter in hand, but found every passage I moved to underline had already been emphasized). The book becomes a page-turner as the roots and relevance of this ancient path unfold. The reader will come away with an enhanced understanding of the history and development of yogic techniques and philosophy, as well as an increased motivation to practice. One of two possibilities

Face it, either you like DX or you don't. That's how you will judge this book probably. If you think that DX has gone on too long then don't get the book. I for one still enjoy the light-heartedness that HBK and HHH bring to the business but then they can still perform. Yes there's backstage events which provides for their dominance, oh well. As for this book, I enjoyed it. Extremely easy flow and readable within one day. It covers the history of DX from shortly after the infamous Curtain Call, up to the recent reforming for merchandise sales. The book is presented as if HHH and HBK were talking to you on camera and more or less in character. They cover it all with glimpses into personal life but again, it's pretty much told in-character. It could have been helped if it were a bit more 'authorized' and done out-of-character and include commentary from the other past members (Chyna, Billy Gunn, Road Dogg, and X-Pac). Even some o-o-c comments about the fall out between certain members.

Anyway, I enjoyed it for a quick read, good presentation from the characters, could have been stronger by telling it from the real personalities and inclusion of other performers. Downside - it's a straight marketing plot for the money.

A fun read for the entire family.

I purchased this book for my son, he is a huge DX fan. He read the book in 1 day! I happened to be in his room, picked the book up, and ended up reading it also. It is funny, interesting, and easy to read. You have to be a DX/wrestling fan to enjoy it though.

About the Author
Michael A. Joyce is a Class 1 licensed plumbing contractor in North Carolina with thirty three years of plumbing experience in commercial, industrial, and residential installations and repairs. He has authored several plumbing books and teaches a variety of plumbing seminars and classes throughout the country, including classes for the United States Pentagon, New York City hospitals and Plumbing-Heating-Cooling Contractors Association (PHCC) of NC. Currently the President of Joyce Company, Inc., Mr. Joyce is also the owner of the Plumbing Education Station at www.plumbingpro.org.

Ray Holder has worked in the electrical industry for more than 50 years as an apprentice, journeyman, master, field engineer, estimator, business manager, contractor, inspector, consultant, author, and instructor. He is a graduate of Texas State University and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in occupational education. A certified instructor of electrical trades, he has been awarded a lifetime teaching certificate from the Texas Education Agency in the field of vocational education. Mr. Holder has taught thousands of students at the University of Texas; Austin Community College; Odessa College; Technical-Vocational Institute of Albuquerque, New Mexico; Howard College at San Angelo, Texas; and in the public school systems in Fort Worth and San Antonio, Texas. He is currently the director of education for Electrical Seminars, Inc. Mr. Holder is a past member of the National Fire Protection Association and International Association of Electrical Inspectors, and a retired member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.
